Quail of a Time

Two weeks ago I was looking out the back window and witnessed the following display of nature: a male quail was parading around the backyard. "How cute," I thought, and started snapping photos.

He must be looking for food, hence his focused interest.

Ah, he sees something tasty!

Tasty, indeed.

The male quail's indecision is written all over his feathery body.

Courage plucked up, he flies to the fence and starts his sassy waddle to the female.

Almost there. Hold it together now.

"Hey, darlin'. You're lookin' fine this afternoon. How about we fly this coop?"

"Hmmpf. Males."

She flew off and after a few moments of stunned silence, he followed.

This scenario seems to repeat itself over and over again. Don't you agree?
